What Are Biorhythms? #01

Our Biorhythm Program (for Windows).

  • Click here to chart, free of charge, any biorhythm up to the end of December 2009. We sell the complete program on the Products Page of The Meeting Point .

At the London Biorhythm Company we have found that doing such biorhythm charts is often theraputic. By studying such charts some people have been helped to put traumatic incidents behind them, and to see them in some sort of perspective.

  • Understanding Biorhythms.

The Physical (usually seen as the Red) biorhythm cycle:

is the dominant cycle in men. It is the significant biorhythm when assessing strength, confidence, ambition, energy, endurance, resistance to and reco very from illness, the sex drive, and the efficiency with which the body uses up calories.

    American researchers

studying the reaction times of airline pilots have shown that the physical biorhythm is connected with the (human) motor nervous system (see Willis in the bibliography).

Some practical application of biorhythms in everyday life:

    Accident Prevention:

    forewarned is forearmed.

Accidents resulting from overconfidence occur on caution days in the physical biorhythm c ycles. By noting these days the rate of motot and industrial accidents, falls and broken bones (as in skiing accidents) can be reduced.

Slipped discs and hernias (you may overestimate your own strength) can also be avoided with foresight.

    Births and Conception:

    Mothers to be

should note all caution days in their physical and emotional biorhythm cycles for the expected month of birth: natural labour will usually start on one of these.

To predict the sex of an unborn child:

note if the mother had a high physical and a low emotional biorhythm at the time of conception. If she did then the child is likely to be a boy.

If, on the other hand, she had a high emotional biorhythm cycle and a low physical biorhythm cycle together at the time of conception then the child is likely to be a girl.

If the physical and emotional biorhythm cycles were both together at the time of conception then

no prediction as to the sex of the child can be made.

This method is free and very easy to use and is accurate in 4 out of 5 cases (80%) , and it works becayse tge acidity of the womb affects which of the chrosomes (carried by the sperm) fertilises the ovum.

Children who naturally use their left hands are usually conc eived then the mother has at least 2, or more usually 3, biorhyhythms high at the time of conception.

    Sexual Desire

can vary: make the most of your physical highs!

    Diets

are best started when your physical biorhythm is high. American research has sh o wn this is the best time to begin, since t he levels of the hormone melatonin are high, and, among other functions, melatonin regulates the calories which are used up by the body.

Be aware that days of excessive nibbling are likely to coincide with caution days in the physical biorhythm cycles.

    Heart Health:

Sufferers from a weak heart or high blood pressure should no te that on caution days in the physical biorhythm they are at their most susceptible. This does not mean they should be idle: it does mean they should take extra care to avoid stress, or to allow extra time for stressful tasks on these days.

    Illness and Operations (Surgery):

In the otherwise healthy, sy mptoms of disease first appear on caution physical biorhythm days, and so does the flare-up of sudden illness like appendicitisis - and toothache!

Plan routine surgery and vaccin ations for high physical biorhythm periods, and, if possible, avoid all caution days for these events. Revocery is faster when the physical biorhythm cycle is high.

Vaccinations should be avoided on any caution day.

    What Are Biorhythms? #02

The Emotional Biorhythm is usually shown in blue.

It is the biorhythm which is most likely to predominate in women and in artistic, creative individuals. This biorhythm plays a major role in sensibility (how vulnerable we feel); sensitivity (how we react to what is
going on around us); creativity (how creative we feel); nervous reactions; our emotions; depression and the unconscious mind.

As this biorhythm is 28 days long, the caution days will fall on alternate weeks on the same day of the week as the person was born. This makes them quite easy to remember. If you were born on a Thursday then the emotional caution days in your biorhythm chart will also fall on Thursdays. This does, often, help you to decide that your chart is accurate!

Researchers have not yet isolated the physiological sources of the emotional biorhythm cycle.

    Mothers to be:

should make a note of the emotional caution days near to the expected date of confinement.

It should also be noted that very sadly if a miscarriage is likely to happen it will occur on a double caution day with this biorhythm cycle being being involved.

You should try to avoid arguments on emotional caution days: this is when they are most likely to occur because people feel irritable and aggressive. If they do happen arguments on these days are likely to have - but a long-lasting effect as they can easily esculate out of control.

Double Caution days in the intellectual and emotional biorhythm cycles

can be traumatic. Individuals of either sex might rashly decide that they have had enough and could go on to leave home or work. On these double caution days where there has been a build-up of suppressed tension an emotional explosion could erupt. In extreme cases there could even be suicide attempts.

Do take such double caution days seriously!

    Intuition and Luck:

On the positive side double caution days in the emotional and intellectual biorhythms can be associated with brilliant flashes of intuition, and long- niggling problems can be solved 'in a flash'. These are also good days for picking lottery numbers - provided you do so spontaneously!

    Dreams and Nightmares:

Recurring Nightmares first surface on caution days in the emotional biorhythm cycle. On the continent of Europe, particulary in France, some psychoanalysts use biorhythm s to maximise the effects of their conventional care.

    Creativity:

peaks during a high emotional biorhythm phase.

    Coma:

victims of comas tend to recover on caution days in the emotional biorhythm cycle.

    Drug Overdoses:

accidental overdoses are moste likely to occur on caution days in the emotional or physical biorhythm cycles.

The Intellectual Biorhythm Cycle is usually shown in green.

was first observed around 20 years after the discovery of the physical and the emotional biorhythms.

It is the predominant cycle in events concerning intelligence, memory, mental alertness, logical thinking, intellectual reactions, and intellectual ambitions, and when low, it helps to regulate intuition.

Japanese researchers, including Professor Tatai, believe that this biorhythm cycle is connected with the secretions of the thyroid gland.

    Expectant mothers:

over the approximate age of 35 years or more should note the intellectual caution biorhythm days near to the date of their confinement. For them this caution day pattern may overridge the more usual pattern for biorhythms for the birth of a baby.

    A high intellectual biorhythm

is an ideal time for thinking intellectually.

    A low intellectual biorhythm cycle

is ideal for intuitive thought - and we all often do this automatically in particular with personal problems. Look at your own reactions and you'll be able to verfiy this.

    Loss of Concentration:

Momentary loss of concentration can result in needless accidents , car accidents are a case in point! So are the numerous incidents of falling from ladders. These are the second largest category of accidents in our research, after motor accidents, and the very sad thing is that most accidents are not only serious, but they change the whole course of the individual's life.

Conscious attention to routine tasks is fefinitely needed on caution days in the intellectual cycle, and Jacyntha would also add that if you can avoid going up a ladder on such a day then that is the safest thing to do.

Generally speaking the best overall biorhythm pattern to have is any two biorhythms cycles high and the other one low: this gives you an above average phase - but with a sense of balance. All three cycles can lead to a person appearing hyperactive, and, if they are not careful they can grate on other people's nerves!

Recently, and as a result of this website I received a letter from one of the original founders of The International Biorhythm Association. This is reproduced here.

and here is another version compiled for the Red Consultancy advertising agency in Piccadilly, London.

    Biorhythms

Charted from birth, the three cycles rise and fall like a wave, with equal being periods above and below a central line. This central line is usually known as the CAUTION or CRITICAL line, and days when any cycle passes through it are known as CAUTION or CRITICAL days. You might see this line marked on some charts with a zero.

As the biorhythm cycles are of different lengths, they rise, fall and cross the central lines at varying times and thus space themselves out. As they do so our energy levels, confidence and stamina; our moods and creativity and our intellectual efficiency are noticeably affected.

On Caution days we are all more vulnerable to things going wrong. It might be an accident just waiting to happen; an emotional crisis just waiting to erupt or the fact that we just do (for reasons we don't understand) something totally stupid.

There are three confirmed biorhythm cycles: they are own individual and in-built risk management system, and by being aware of them we can avoid many of the potential traumas in our lives.

    · The Physical biorhythm lasts for 23 days and affects our sense of wellbeing, strength, coordination, confidence, resistance to and recovery from disease. During the upper half of the cycle, when it is shown as above the central line, we are at your strongest. During the second half you are far less likely to break any Olympic records, and should generally be more careful.

    · The Emotional biorhythm lasts for 28 days. It is quite easy to remember the caution days in this cycle because they will always fall on the same day of the week on which you were born. The first 14 days are good for anything creative, but on caution days you really are more prone to emotional outbursts which you later regret. Once you realise this it's much easier to reign back and resist going over the top! It's also a useful back-up to stop someone ranting at you. Tell them it's their just biorhythms causing them to over-react and the wind goes out of their sail!

    · The Intellectual biorhythm is the longest and comes in at 33 days in length. It was observed slightly after the first 2 and is related to the secretions of the thyroid gland. It governs our reasoning abilities, and our intuition, which is an interesting aspect of this biorhythm. When our intellect is high our intuition is low and vice versa. Caution days in this cycle can correspond with large strokes of luck!

    · The beginning of each biorhythm cycle is a good time for planning and solving things, and adapting to new situations. Your biorhythms should not rule your life ? they should be used as a background to building a more pleasant and efficient one for yourself, and as a tool for understanding the foibles of others.

    · Patterns to watch out for?

Triple high biorhythm phases: These are fun for you as you can achieve so much, but can lead to hyperactivity, which often means disturbed sleep, and your enthusiasm might, if not controlled, lead to resentment among colleagues!

Two highs and a low: At any one time this is a good balance, probably the best biorhythm pattern to have. It indicates that your wellbeing is above average, but there is also a sense of 'balance' involved.

Triple low: Not much fun and of all the biorhythm patterns this is almost certainly the most noticeable. Just relax until it passes ? which it will do.

Triple caution: This is when all three biorhythms cross the central zero line. These only come about once every nine years. Take care

    The London Biorhythm Company

In the 1890s in Berlin and in Vienna the Physical biorhythm and the Emotional biorhythm were the first 2 biorhythms to be methodically recorded. The young, and later eminent researchers involved were Wilhelm Fliess; Sigmund Freud, the founder of psychoanalysis; and (Professor) Hermann Swobada. Their initial workings are discussed in more detail on the of The Biorhythm Kit.

The Physical Biorhythm was shown to be the dominant biorhythm in males, and it "governs" or plays a major role for humans in: accident prevention; ambition; the timing of the birth of children; confidence; the efficiency with which we use up the calories we consume; endurance; heart health (and other organs too); reaction times; the sex drive; strength; and susceptibility to and recovery from illness.

  • There are, of course, computer programs that display biorhythms, but the majority of these only cover the years from 1900 to 1999. Additionally, an independent survey of commercially available biorhythm programs done in a British university in 1992, showed that 3 out of the 5 programs tested were seriously inaccurate. Jacyntha's experience has been similar.
  • The London Biorhythm Company also maintains an archive of letters and questionnaires which is almost certainly the largest source of information on biorhythms anywhere in the world and we are the British Medical Association reference point on information on biorhythms.
  • Ongoing Research
  • We have undertaken a major study on biorhythm research and suicides and in this we are co-operating with the Institut für Glische Medizin der Universitat Innsbruck. Other areas we are particularly interested in are vaccine damage and inoculation reactions; Brief Recurrent Depression (BRD), adverse reactions from domestic animals - incidents like dog bites from normally friendly dogs - and we are working on a project with the post office, who are supplying incident figures. We are also interested in tinnitus (the hearing abnormality) research.
  • The International Biorhythm Association, and earlier
  • Around 8 miles from here in Sutton Coldfield, the late Dr. Keith Jolles, a GP lived and worked. He was the British Member of the International Biorhythm Association, and eventually the BMA reference point for biorhythm information, a title which, with agreement, he passed on to me.
  • Keith Jolles worked on biorhythms when to do so stigmamatised him within the medical establishment, and it was not until the late 1970s that such attitudes slowly began to change and he felt able to write widely on the subject using the pen name Dr. Michael Kennedy.
  • Keith Jolles was always an inspiration to me, and so, as I am virtually on his home territory, I dedicate this talk to him.
  • He inspired me to continue thinking about the subject; supported me when I applied for and was awarded a DTI Design Initiative Award, and was delighted when, pushing my luck, the biorhythm wheel reached the final round for consideration for inclusion as an exhibit within the Millenium Dome.
  • So, just what are biorhythms?
  • Biorhythms are three of our internal clocks which, after much thought and observtion, I believe have an influence on our reactions and responses to events in every day life, and I hope, by the end of this talk you will all be wondering whether this could be right.
  • I accept that many believe there could be up to 7 biorhythms, but here I intend to stick to the 3 most researched cycles which are the PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL AND INTELLECTUAL BIORHYTHMS. These cycles are usually shown as the red, blue and green ones.
  • The Physical Cycle, the RED one, as the name would suggest. plays a part in our energy and strength; our endurance; our sex drive and confidence; our ambition; our resistance to and recovery from illness, our reaction times and the efficiency with which the body uses up calories. In the 1970s in the US it was learnt that the reaction time of pilots was 6 times slower on a physical caution biorhythm day. We'll come to the explanation of a caution day in a moment.
  • The Emotional Cycle, the BLUE one, is associated with the ups and downs of moods; with nervous actions and reactions; with creativity; affection; depression and the unconscious mind. Freud, who along with Wilhelm Fliess, a Berlin doctor, first noted these 2 cycles placed a considerable amount of emphasis on this cycle, particularly on dreams which occurred on caution days in this cycle, which he felt were more intense on the caution days.
  • The Intellectual Cycle which is the third one we are considering tonight was first noted 20 years later than the first two. It is associated with intelligence, memory, mental alertness, logical thinking and intellectual reactions. When it is high these attributes are to the fore, and when it is low our intuition is stronger compensating for the decline in intellectual capabilities. Japanese scientists have established that this cycle is related to the secretions of the thyroid gland and that this cycle remains dormant until puberty. A word of warning. Don't make any important decisions on caution day in the Intellectual cycle. This strange but true - in the early days of my interest in biorhythms, before biorhythm programs were readily available, I actually had someone ring up to ask me to verify the intellectual caution days of another person so that he, for it was a man, could more easily get one over on a business rival. I said person that I did not approve of biorhythms being used in this manner, in actual fact it had never occurred to me before that, and that if he knew how to do calculate them then he could do so for himself. I was not getting involved in such skulduggary.
  • Biorhythms are usually shown as sine waves because this makes them easier to assess at a glance, but really you can portray them in any way which suits you.
  • On the chart that you can see here you will notice that each cycle has a HIGH and a LOW section, and across the middle of the chart is a horizontal line. This is called the CAUTION line, and any day which crosses this line is known as a caution day. There are also have double caution days, when 2 lines cross the caution line together. These are, generally speaking, not particularly pleasant days. Then are the occasional triple caution days. On average triple caution days come up every 8 and a bit years. It was the observation of the caution days in what has become known as the Physical and Emotional biorhythms, that led Fliess and Freud to calculate backwards and to deduce that biorhythms must exist.
  • So, apart from getting one over on business rivals, what use can be make of biorhythms? Well, ....
  • From birth to death biorhythms affect all of us. The use of biorhythms in predicting the date of birth of a child is shown in the handout that you have.
  • Biorhythms at the time of death have been researched in depth in every country where biorhythms are known about. Some Africa cultures, particularly in my experience in Kenya, have a pathological dread of biorhythms and anything to do with them. If you want to do a quick study of biorhythms in respect of births and deaths then just consider those of your family, or take the obituary pages of any newspaper, local or national. The information is there for you to pick up on. Fliess, a workaholic, ploughed his way through at least 10,000 family trees for 3 generations, and that was in the 1890s and 1900s, before modern calculators were invented.
  • One quick tip for basic biorhythm research within the family: if a mother was born on say a Wednesday than it is very likely that her children are born on a Wednesday, or in the labour is protracted on a Thursday. Children who are born naturally tend to be born on the same weekday or the following weekday as their mother. Try this out for yourself.
  • The effects of the biorhythm patterns of individuals involved in motor accidents and airplane crashes have been widely researched because they have such commercial implications. In Britain the then LLC undertook a major study of the subject and did not release the results. At around the same time the Nottinghamshire County Council studied 50,000 drivers on a voluntary basis and have said that the influence of biorhythms was an effect in many instances of appauling driving. On the other hand the British Road Transport Laboratory have evidence that pooh-poohs any such link. So you take your pick of the research. My personal pick, and I would say that, is that but for lousy biorhythms the glamour girl Jane Manfield, one of the first, if not the first, women to appear bear-breasted in a regular newspaper, might be be alive and aging gracefully, and who knows Edward Kennedy might have been President of the United States. His biorhythms at Chappaquiddick, and this is probably one of the most quoted examples of biorhythms, were a double caution day with a caution day following that. No wonder he couldn't think straight. Oh, and by the way, there is Japanese research to show that, on a caution day in the physical biorhythm the effects of alcohol on the reactions of any individual are around 5 times more drastic than on a high biorhythm day. So, should you feel like getting blotto then do it then - it will be much cheaper, and make sure that your caution day is followed by the beginning of a high phase. The hangover will be less painful.
  • MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Drivers), P.O. Box 541688, Dallas, TX75354-1688, USA. 1-800-438-6233). In the US over 5,000 young people are killed each year in this manner.
  • Oh, incidentally, many driving schools in Britain check the biorhythm patterns of those about to take the driving test and adjust for the exam dates accordingly.
  • As well as caution days it is useful to note the occurrences of triple high phases and triple low phases. These are the most noticeable biorhythm patterns which do not contain a caution day.
  • If you find someone you know being unusually or uncharacteristically irritating and overbearing then I would suggest that they are experiencing a triple high phase, when all three cycles are above the line together. This is a biorhythm pattern that most people can spot in others without, perhaps, realising exactly why it should happen that way.
  • Thankfully, these phases are usually short in length. Because there is no form of balance within the . individual they feel on a high, and this feeling dominates everything they do - making them rather irritating to those around them.
  • If one of those around them is also suffering lousy biorhythms then watch out for the fireworks. This and similar aspects of biorhythm compatability are used by the Japanese in matching work colleagues according to their biorhythms and thus creating a harmonious working environment. The same principles, of course, also work within the family - so if you know this you can make allowances and reduce the emotional temperature.
  • The most useful biorhythm pattern to have, by the way is any 2 biorhythm cycles. You feel in control - but with a sense of balance.
  • Triple low biorhythms, when all the biorhythms are down together, are the period I personally am most aware of. You feel absolutley nackered, and really the only thing that you can do under such circumstances is to go with the flow and have a few early nights. Life is littered with exmples of people who try to work at full pace through their triple low phases. The result if that they collapse either phyically or mentally. Spike Milligan collapsed on stage in Hong Kong; some years ago Maurice Gibbs of the Bee-Gees collapsed and was rushed to hospital; Edward Heath the British Prime Minister; Ian Smith the Prime Minister of the then Rhodesia, Liza Minelli. As I wrote this list it occurred to me, and I hadn't realised this before that nearly all those who collapse at such times are men. Perhaps most women have sense enough just to slow down a bit!
  • Lastly, to end this talk I would like to read you an extract from an unsolicited letter from a male member of Mensa who earns his living writing do-it-yourself books.
  • There is a time for everything. The human body knows this. It is governed by biorhythms as well as by other regular cycles; among these are those influenced by day and night, the sun and the moon. Have you ever looked back and thought that you may have made a bad decision? Or that an accident was probably your fault?
