Tracing Your Ancesters (2):

US-based genealogy research sources.

  • "My Family" is one of the largest "people finders" in the US.

  • www.Ancestry.com started as a US-based collection of famiy history documents and information. It is now the largest family history site online with over 4 billion names in worldwide historical records. You can initially access these collections by taking advantage of the 14 day free trial.
  • As www.Ancestry.com grew, the genealogical collections were subdivided by country of origin. There are currently over 20 origin-based groups of documents within www.Ancestry.com, as well as other ethnic-based family history websites, e.g. www.ItalianAncesstry.com.
  • In the UK many larger Reference Libraries hold a group subscription to www.Ancestry.com. This can be used at the library free of charge.
  • The Ancestry.com Original Postcard Archive (1893-1963). Like www.Ancestry.com, the original postcard archive was originally US-based. The collections grew rapidly, and have now been subdivided, again by country. Ki Cards is the Meeting Point's equivalent service. At Ki Cards we can try and source individual scenes or locations on request. Then, for a small fee, at Ki Cards, we can reproduce our archived postcards which you can then use to illustrate your project, or thesis, or even just post the cards on as individualised greetings.

  • RootsWeb is the Internet's oldest and largest, award-winning, FREE genealogical community. There are searchable databases.

  • The Agnus L. Macdonald Library holds a complete copy all federal census, and is the repository for other Canadian government documents. The website links to other Canadian department documents, and key federal sites.
  • Volunteers are still needed to help transcribe the 1861 Ontario Census!
  • " The memory of all that: Canadian women remember World War II". Imperial War Museum Archive available through the InterLibrary Loan Scheme .
  • The Peter Robinson Irish Emigrations to Canada, 1823 and 1825.
Use the InterLibrary Loan Scheme to forward copies to your local public library.

  • " National Trust Names", in collaboration with University College, London (UCL) are investigating the history of surnames throughout Great Britain. The eventual aim of this research is to set up a " World Surname Profiler ".
  • The Carribbean Surname Index.
  • Researching Afro-Caribbean Family History.

  • Never, Ever give Up!

At the Meeting Point, at Batik Cards and at Ki Publishing we have a genuine complaint in the way that biorhythm representatives have been continually ignored by bullying Royal Mail. This is why the Meeting Point, Batik Cards and Ki Publishing are in dispute with the bullying Royal Mail. The London Biorhythm Company rented a P.O. Box from the bullying Royal Mail, and had always paid promptly and annually in advance. In August 2006 bullying Royal Mail staff intercepted, and by their own admission, pulped our incoming mail. At the Meeting Point, at Batik Cards and at Ki Publishing we complained politely; then complained and requested an apology. Polite complaint 1 and polite complaint 2 having been disdainfully ignored by bullying Royal Mail staff, we upped the stakes to complaint 3 in which the Meeting Point, Batik Cards and Ki Publishing additionally requested a re-instatement of full service, after all the London Biorhythm Company had fully paid-up for this service, and at the London Biorhythm Company we had always given the counter staff chocolates at Christmas! Now, at the Meeting Point, at Batik Cards and at Ki Publishing we have lost patience. Our genuine complaints are routinely and deliberately ignored by bullying Royal Mail staff. Polite complaints to the Ki Publishing got us nowhere, so, the Meeting Point, Batik Cards and Ki Publishing are now 'going for' maximum media coverage and full compensation for the disruption of service to the The London Biorhythm Company; the Meeting Point, Batik Cards and Ki Publishing, and the loss of the London Biorhythm Company's; the Meeting Point's; Batik Cards's and Ki Publishing's efficient image.
